Ryedale Linux User Group Previous Meetings

As promised, Fintan brought along a machine with Beryl installed.  A quick demo followed the necessary plugging in of bits, but to be honest I doubt that any of us was stunned at what was before us.  For sure it was pretty and graphically very clever, so if you are impressed with loads of eye candy then it's probably right up your street, but as a bunch of folk who spend a fair bit of time tinkering at the command-line it left us asking if we would rather our processors etc were doing more useful things.  Comparisons with Vista were rather inevitable, but similar, what advantages does it offer, comments about Vista being most common.  Other comments about Vista centred on how similar to Sun's Looking Glass it appears, and as we were seeing that some two or three years a go we were left wondering what advances you would get for the extra money and probable upgrades required to install Vista.

Time was also spent getting Fintan's GPG set up back in shape after he'd transfered his key from one machine to another.  Dave and Paul also spent some time making networks and generally messing about.

Finally, and it wouldn't be a RyeLUG meet without this; my chocolate biscuits went down well.  In fact; never in the field of troughing have so few eaten so many biscuits in such a short space of time!
